Local activities include:
Walking
The hills and forests have hidden crags for easy rock climbing but, above all else, it is the varied walking that attracts people back to Charnwood Forest over and over again. Of course in Winter this can be a wonderland with plenty of opportunities for sledging and snowballing! It is mainly gentle field and woodland walking, the highest point in the immediate vicintity being Beacon Hill at 248m. At Beacon Hill country park there are more than 100 hectares of heath and woodland, including a collection of trees native to Britain. A newly-planted area includes a Woodland Trail featuring woodland crafts, a viewing platform and a shelter built of straw. The park is also home to the unusual sight of Manx Loghton sheep and alpacas. Great for the kids.

Great Central Railway
A great day out for all of the family; voted 12th on the list of the 50 greatest railway journeys in the world the Great Central Railway is the UK's only double track, main line heritage railway. The only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other just as it was when steam ruled the rails.
